Extraordinary Short Stays: The Prettiest Cabins To Snap Up In Wales

When planning a trip to Wales, it’s worth thinking practically—especially when it comes to accommodation. With its famously unpredictable weather and breathtaking scenery, the right place to stay can make all the difference. Look for somewhere warm and welcoming, with plenty of space to dry off your boots after a walk in the wild.

From towering peaks like Mount Snowdon to the expansive beauty of Harlech Bay, Wales offers something for every kind of traveller. But with so many options, where do you begin? Let us introduce you to two hidden gems that blend scenic charm with cosy comfort—and support a brilliant cause while you're at it.

Introducing: King Offa’s and Queen Cynethryth’s Cabins

In 2025, we collaborated with Jamie’s Farm—a charity transforming young lives—and visionary architect Roderick James of Out Of The Blue to create two truly unique cabin retreats. Nestled just three miles from Monmouth, King Offa’s and Queen Cynethryth’s cabins offer the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

These beautifully crafted elliptical cabins sit amid peaceful farmland, overlooking the stunning Wye Valley National Park. Inside, each cabin includes a snug lounge, a compact galley kitchen, and a cosy bedroom with an en-suite shower room. Step outside and you’ll find a private deck with wooden chairs and a coffee table—ideal for soaking in panoramic countryside views with your morning brew.

The interiors are a harmonious blend of modern design and Alpine charm. Natural wood panelling evokes the feeling of a Swiss chalet, while soft throws and cushions add extra warmth and comfort. Thoughtfully furnished and flooded with natural light, the large windows frame ever-changing rural vistas like living art. It’s a space designed for tranquillity and connection—with nature and each other.

Stays That Make a Difference: Supporting Jamie’s Farm

Every penny of profit from your stay goes directly to Jamie’s Farm, a charity helping young people flourish. Through immersive five-day stays on working farms, combined with therapy, mentorship, and a strong sense of community, Jamie’s Farm empowers young people to develop healthier behaviours, relationships, and outlooks.

Since its founding in 2007, Jamie’s Farm has supported over 16,000 young people across the UK. Guests staying in the cabins are actively contributing to this life-changing work.

Design That Gives Back: Out Of The Blue

The cabins were brought to life by Out Of The Blue Ltd, a specialist in small-space living and sustainable design. Architect Roderick James designed the cabins to be practical, efficient, and beautiful—creating a space that doesn't require moving furniture around to function well.

According to James, these cabins also offer a smart solution for charity fundraising:

“Each cabin costs around £50,000 to build, but could bring in £25,000 annually in bookings—all of which goes to funding Jamie’s Farm programmes.”

Crafted with Care: Our Role at The Wainhouse Co

We were proud to support this inspiring project through our trade programme, creating bespoke dining furniture for both cabins. Roderick approached us with a clear vision, and we delivered handcrafted pieces that marry form and function beautifully.

The dining sets—crafted from sustainably sourced pine and beech—feature a striking "dip-dyed" effect with Farrow & Ball's Pitch Black paint, echoing the rustic-modern aesthetic of the cabins. Made in our Somerset workshop, each piece is finished with care to preserve the wood’s natural character and ensure long-lasting durability.
