Blue and white pottery, with its timeless allure, has gracefully adapted and evolved across cultures and centuries. The style originated in the 14th century in China during the Yuan dynasty. Cobalt oxide, which produced a striking blue colour, was skilfully applied to create intricate patterns. It was 5 or 6 centuries later that the British produced their own versions of the Chinese art, and blue and white pottery quickly became popular in the 18th and 19th century. Today, we continue to explore blue and white pottery. From minimalist Scandinavian designs to Japanese motifs, the legacy lives on.
